In June of 2009, I received an email from Melanie Ross soon after I asked her to submit a photo to the Caffeinated Conversations Flickr group. She thanked me for the invitation, indicating that her husband (with daughter) in the photo was Velton of Velton’s Coffee Roasting Company. Just a few weeks before this email, I read a review of his Bonsai Blend Espresso at Coffee Review where he received a 94. Coincidence or fate?

Soon, the four us met at the roastery, which happens to be in Everett, WA, just a few miles north from where I live. I never once imagined that a Flickr group submission would lead to something like this.
Over the last few months, I have spent countless hours hanging out at the roastery, talking coffee, social media, baseball, and so forth. While I home roast from time to time, nothing compares to what Velton can do with his Diedrich IR-12.
